The time has come to confer our first award of the evening. This year’s recipient of the Distinctive Professional in Mental Health award goes to the owner of Woken Soul Yoga and Counseling. Her mission is to develop healthy therapeutic relationships and build community through individual counseling and community yoga. She is a: Licensed Certified Social Worker, Registered Yoga Teacher, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional with twelve plus years of experience of: providing therapy, advocating for the oppressed, and collaborating with community partners. In addition to services provided for her clients, she also provides workshops for other professionals in many different settings. Her commitment to community engagement reaches far and wide. She facilitates a free community support group for high school students of the LGBTQ+ community to build self-esteem. She regularly hosts free community yoga classes to facilitate a mind and body connection and community healing. She was nominated for the Best Mental Health Service in NWA by Best of NWA. Additionally, she frequently is an invited panelist for community discussions related to mental health and wellness within the Black community. As we celebrate the collective effort for a better community, let us welcome our Distinctive Professional in Mental Health—Shakira Eakins.
Let’s continue the spirit of celebration and confer our second and final award of the evening. This year’s Distinctive Organization in Mental Health award recipient is a community organization that hosts many community, couples, and individual events that promote mental health through art expression. The Pi Chi Zeta chapter can attest to their hard work. They host monthly events for communities of NWA. The owner has also hosted our sisterhood paint night during Finer Womanhood Week 2024. They are serving the community by combining art, music, and therapy when mental health services are becoming unavailable in part to insurance companies not covering services. As a social practice artist registered with the Arkansas Arts Council, this organization aims to leave families better than when they first came. They have served clients within daycares, senior living facilities, church youth auxiliaries, small and corporate businesses, and the Benton County Probation Office.
They have warm customer service and want to provide continued services to the community. They strive to assist others regardless of race, age, gender, with the advantage of affordable prices. With renewed and empowered faith, this organization is a beacon of hope in challenging times. As we celebrate the collective effort for a better community, let us welcome this year’s Distinctive Organization in Mental Health—Lakeshia Bradley of My-T-By-Design.
Pi Chi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. would like to thank everyone for your support, attendance, thoughts and prayers that made the greatest impact on such a successful event!
